Jayne smiled to let him know she wasn’t upset that a bosom-flaunting female had put her hands and lips all over him.

“How much have you had to drink, Jayne?”

“Glasses and glasses.” She picked up an empty goblet. “I’m trying to decide whether I like the wine or the champagne better. Have the waiter bring more so I can find out.”

“You’ve had enough.”

She wagged her finger. “I’m not swinging from a chandelier, nor am I facedown in a bowl of soup.”

He raised his hand and gestured. “You left out brainless chatter.”

A waiter magically appeared. Jayne blinked. How amazing. She raised her hand to see if she could perform the same trick.

“Take the food away and bring us whatever you have that’s hot and ready to eat.”

“Certainly, sir.”

The dishes vanished.

“Who are you waving at?”

Jayne brought Burke’s face into focus. My, he was handsome. Dark and scary, too. But that was part of his charm. She liked the way he tickled her stomach without even touching her. “I’m not waving. I’m practicing.”

“Practicing what?”

“To see if I can make a waiter appear.”

“Did you need something?”

“I don’t think so.”

“Then stop practicing.”

“Okey-dokey.” She handed him her empty goblet.

“What’s this for?”

“I want more of the white stuff.”

“The Chablis?”

“Yes siree, that’s what I want. You’re so smart, Burke. I don’t think you stuffy, either. ‘Good Ship Rita’ was wrong about that.”

“I think we’ll hold off on the wine until you’ve eaten.”
